The Black Watch of Canada

"The Black Watch of Canada" is a Canadian Armed Forces infantry regiment based in Montreal, Canada. It is the oldest Scottish regiment in Canada since its creation on January 31, 1862. Volunteers have served in this regiment since its inception as "5th Battalion, Canadian Volunteer Militia". With the rise of American military force during the Civil War worrying Canada, the government agreed to form militia regiments. Six Scottish chiefs from Montreal answered the call by establishing an infantry company for the 5th Battalion. Since then, thousands of Canadian citizens have served with the "Black Watch of Canada". In addition to security at Canada's borders, they fought in the "Boer War" as well as in the First and Second World Wars and then in the Korean War.

In France, this regiment cooperated in operation "Jubilee" in Dieppe on August 19, 1942 where it suffered enormous human losses on these French beaches, at the Normandy landings in 1944 during the Second World War and also participated in different operations of the Battle of Normandy. He collaborated in the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division in the operations "Atlantic", "Spring" and "Totalize" for the capture of the town of "Falaise" in the department "Calvados" in France.
